Therapy Approach

Pain, discomfort and general dissatisfaction are the greatest motivators for change and generally are what lead people to seek psychotherapy in the first place.  My primary goal is to help you implement change – whether individually or in your relationship.  My therapy is a unique fusion of cognitive behavioral, attachment and family of origin theories – as well as an emphasis on emotional safety as it relates to a strong relationship foundation. My counseling style is compassionate, no nonsense and down-to earth. All of these things – combined with my clients’ willingness to “dig deep” - have led to great success in helping people resolve their individual issues and have more satisfying relationships.

I teach my clients that we are all products of a lifetime of conditioning, beginning with our families of origin. This conditioning can have a negative impact on our relationships and our self concept.  We all create belief systems about ourselves and others in childhood – usually from our parents.  They also can be created by traumatic events or other relationships.  This plays a large role in our current functioning. Ask yourself whether you learned that you were lovable as a child. Did you learn to trust others? Or did you get the idea that there’s something wrong with you or that people can’t be trusted? Also, what did you learn about relationships and how to be in them?

Most importantly, does what you learned help or hinder you now?

Whether I'm doing individual therapy or couples counseling, my style is a combination of understanding "why" people operate the way they do and teaching them practical tools to make lasting change.
