My name is Lisa Brookes Kift and I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (MFC #45087). I do individual, couples and premarital counseling in downtown Larkspur, Marin County, CA., and have a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from National University, located in San Diego, CA.
My therapy orientation is a personally tailored blend of ideas around Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, attachment and family of origin theories, Emotionally Focused Therapy as well as an emphasis on emotional safety as it relates to a strong relationship foundation. I also have an interest in the latest research in neuroscience, mindfulness, resilience and positive emotions in their ability to forge true and lasting change across the life span.
My counseling style is compassionate and down-to earth. I prioritize human connection over a clinical “one-up” dynamic and I see our work as a collaboration. Research has shown that the most important element of change in therapy is the relationship between therapist and client(s).
I have done my own therapy which I believe only enhances my therapeutic skills and understanding of what it’s like to sit on the “other side.” I’m also a writer. My other site, The Toolbox at LisaKiftTherapy.com is a large, emotional and relationship health resource with content by me and other guest contributors in my field.
Additionally, you can find quick tips by me on this site, on my Therapist Notes Blog. Each post has either an Emotional or Relationship Health “Minute” and has easily digestible information you can receive via email when they are posted (a few a month).
A frequent consultant for the media, I have appeared in such publications and online news sources as CNN.com, HuffingtonPost.com, Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine, Shape Magazine, Men’s Health and others. (See In the Media).
